Kansas City PBS will host a debate on Wednesday, Oct. 5, between Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly (D) and her opponent, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt (R). Presented ahead of the 2022 Midterm Elections, Week in Review’s Nick Haines will moderate in partnership with the Johnson County Bar Association. The debate will livestream from the DoubleTree Hotel in Overland Park on Kansas City PBS’ Facebook page at noon and air on Channel 19.1 at 7 p.m.
“As voters prepare to head to the polls, Kansas City PBS is proud to continue its commitment to providing comprehensive coverage of the candidates and issues on the ballot,” said Kliff Kuehl, president & CEO of Kansas City PBS. “With Nick Haines at the helm and his expertise, we hope our viewers will feel informed about each candidate’s stance on a wide range of issues before they cast their votes in November."
This debate between the Sunflower State’s gubernatorial candidates continues Kansas City PBS’ “On the Ballot” election coverage. Throughout the summer, KCPBS has provided ample coverage, including a Kansas Attorney General primary debate, while recent episodes of the Flatland show have explored the nuances of pivotal issues including reproductive rights, recreational marijuana, how citizens can pursue ballot initiatives and more. Still ahead of election day, Haines will be moderating additional debates between candidates, and Flatland will bring more online resources and in-depth coverage to the conversations.
This debate is sponsored by AARP Kansas.
