To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Kansas City PBS is collecting shoes to help those less fortunate around the globe.
As fans of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood will recall, Fred Rogers opened every episode by changing out of his loafers into a pair of sneakers. Drawing inspiration from this signature routine, Kansas City PBS is partnering with the Fred Rogers Company, producers of the beloved series, and Soles4Souls, a non-profit social enterprise that creates sustainable jobs and provides relief through the distribution of shoes and clothing around the world.
Soles4Souls will convert every used pair of shoes collected by Kansas City PBS into humanitarian and economic change. Gently used shoes will be distributed to microenterprise programs that create jobs in Haiti, Honduras, and other developing nations. The resulting revenue will help fund the free distribution of new shoes in the U.S., Canada, and developing nations around the world.
How to participate:
1) Between March 1 to Dec. 1, 2018 bring your gently used or new shoes of any kind to Kansas City PBS Monday through Friday (except for holidays) between 9-5 p.m., or to one of our upcoming collection events or partner sites.
2) Please bundle each pair of shoes using a rubber band or by tying laces together.
3) We’ll thank you for your donation with a commemorative Mister Rogers magnet.
