Kansas City PBS has announced “On the Ballot,” a new initiative providing comprehensive coverage of all local elections, beginning with the 2022 midterm elections in Kansas and Missouri. The campaign kicks off with the Kansas Republican Attorney General Primary Debate on Wednesday, June 15.

Co-sponsored by the Johnson County Bar Association, Week in Review’s Nick Haines moderates this hour-long debate between the three candidates vying for the position, former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, former federal prosecutor Tony Mattivi and State Senator Kellie Warren. This debate will livestream from the DoubleTree Hotel in Overland Park on Kansas City PBS’ Facebook page at noon and air on Channel 19.1 at 7 p.m.

“Throughout the primaries and the general election season, Kansas City PBS and Flatland will provide truly comprehensive coverage to help our community members become confident voters,” said Kliff Kuehl, president & CEO of Kansas City PBS. “Whether you call the Sunflower State or Show-Me State home, are a Democrat, a Republican or an independent, everything and everyone up for a vote affects you, your neighbors and our communities. These decisions can be complicated, so Kansas City PBS works hard to simplify them as best we can.”

Week in Review’s Nick Haines will be moderating additional debates between candidates, while new episodes of Flatland will explore nuances of pivotal issues, including reproductive rights, marijuana, guns, energy, health care and how our state elections play out. Plus, Flatland will bring additional online resources and in-depth coverage to the conversations throughout November.

“With their votes, Kansans and Missourians will decide the balance of power in Topeka, Jefferson City and even Washington, D.C., while determining the outcome of a variety of issues,” said Haines, executive producer of public affairs/news. “Kansas City PBS is proud to be the public service helping you choose your public servants.”
