90.9 The Bridge Celebrates 23 Years on Air

In a time of rapid change in the radio landscape, 90.9 The Bridge proudly celebrates 23 years of bringing Kansas City the best in local music and alternative tunes. This milestone comes just a week after the city’s oldest alternative radio station made the surprising shift to a sports radio format, leaving 90.9 The Bridge as one of few local stations dedicated to indie and alternative music.

For nearly a quarter-century, 90.9 The Bridge has been a steadfast advocate for the local music scene. The station gives a platform to Kansas City’s homegrown talent and curates a diverse mix of alternative sounds that resonate with the community. The station’s commitment to local artists and alternative music has solidified its place as an essential cultural institution in Kansas City.

“Our mission has always been to champion local music and offer a unique alternative to mainstream radio,” said Bryan Truta, Director of Radio Operations at 90.9 The Bridge. “As the landscape of radio continues to evolve, we’re more dedicated than ever to supporting our local artists and providing a space for alternative voices.”

90.9 The Bridge’s programming reflects Kansas City’s vibrant music scene, featuring everything from indie rock to emerging local acts. With the recent changes in the local radio market, 90.9 The Bridge stands out as one of the last remaining stations where listeners can discover new music, hear from local artists and connect with the music community more deeply.

To celebrate, Bridge members are invited to a 909 Session with Treanne, a singer-songwriter born in London and then raised in both Jamaica and Kansas City. The 909 Session will be shared on YouTube after the event.

All of Kansas City can celebrate with their favorite Bridge host tomorrow night at the Boulevard Beer Hall from 6-8 p.m. The TunesDay event will feature a live broadcast and a performance by the Canterberries.
