James Herriot’s adventures as a veterinarian in 1930s Yorkshire get a new adaptation in a seven-part series based on his beloved stories. Newcomer Nicholas Ralph makes his television debut as the iconic vet who became renowned for his inspiring humor, compassion and love of life. The 1970s adaptation, which aired on public broadcasting, was a favorite of millions of viewers.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra: Ghosts of Christmas Eve

Trans-Siberian Orchestra is making its anticipated return to Kansas City this December! Carry on the Christmas tradition and reserve your tickets by supporting Kansas City PBS.

Narrated by the late Ossie Davis, this is a fantasy trip through the magic of Christmas. A runaway little girl decides to return to her family after she enters a rundown theater for shelter and encounters an old caretaker, who guides her on her journey. The caretaker (Davis) brings the theater to life through various musical performances by singers Jewel, Michael Crawford and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Il Volo: Tribute to Ennio Morricone

Monday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m.

Set in the medieval town made famous by Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” Italian performers Gianluca Ginoble, Piero Barone and Ignazio Boschetto serenade a live audience in an extraordinary tribute concert to legendary composer Ennio Morricone. This special showcases classical arrangements from the film composer and fan favorites from the operatic trio’s most popular albums.

Slavery by Another Name

Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m.

This documentary, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Douglas A. Blackmon, explores the story of the post-Emancipation era and the labor practices and laws that effectively created a new form of slavery in the South that persisted well into the 20th century. Blackmon examines the concept of “neoslavery,” which sentenced African Americans to forced labor for violating an array of laws that criminalized their everyday behavior.
