In late February our Director of Education Gary Brock, along with several others from across the nation, traveled to New York to participate in a Sesame Street in Communities workshop. This program was designed to help parents and caregivers navigate the complexities of raising children by providing learning opportunities through multimedia tools in both English and Spanish. The resources, designed for children from birth to age 6, include videos, activities, printables and digital interactives that cover a range of topics, from school readiness to building healthy habits to tougher issues such as divorce.
KCPT, one of the first stations chosen to be a community partner of Sesame Street in Communities, has hosted several sessions showcasing the many services the program offers, effectively introducing these valuable resources to the community. The KCPT education department works closely with early childhood educators in the Kansas City area to ensure that more residents are aware of the program. In appreciation for all that KCPT does for the Kansas City community, Sesame Street is sending a representative, Jasmin Williams, to the fourth-annual Sesame Street in Communities Kansas City workshop scheduled for Oct. 3, 2020, at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center. Many important topics such as how to promote family bonding and how to deal with adverse childhood experiences (homelessness, incarceration and trauma) will be presented.
